Artists Getting Loud for Palestine with Rise Up: BDS Mixtape Vol. 2

Dear Barb,

In the midst of this extraordinarily painful time, we are taking heart in the outpouring of protest and solidarity.

We are grateful to have been working with over a dozen artists proudly committed to Palestinian freedom to create Rise Up: BDS Mixtape Volume 2. Against intensive attempts to silence demands for ceasefire and true justice, musicians are raising their voices and instruments to amplify Palestine.

We are turning this soundtrack for solidarity up loud, and hope you’ll turn it up with us!

Rise Up: BDS Mixtape Vol. 2 is out now on Bandcamp and streaming platforms worldwide.

All proceeds support cultural initiatives in Palestine, and today Bandcamp is waiving its revenue share of all sales.

Though we release this album in far different circumstances than when we first began gathering contributions, we remain steadfast in our vision of exuberant solidarity with Palestine not just in times of extreme crisis, but also in the ongoing creative work of collective liberation.

Today, it feels especially urgent to broadcast a message to Palestinians and the many Israelis who have joined in the struggle for a future with justice and equality:

With musicians hailing from Hawai’i to New York to Palestine, Rise Up showcases musical styles from across the globe, with 16 tracks that capture the creative connections, joyous energy, and meditative reflection that fuel freedom struggles.

The vibrant album art by queer Palestinian artist Elias Rischmawi reminds us: Palestinians have been creatively resisting repression for decades. When not only their flag was forbidden but even artwork with its colors, Palestinians defied the colonist censors. The watermelon has become a symbol of that defiance and a worldwide icon of solidarity.
